Mrs. Stephen E. (Lula Bell) Abernathy, 41, of Veedersburg Rt 2 and former resident of Covington died at 2:10 p.m. Feb 19 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill where she had been a patient one day. She had been ill a week. She was born in Covington Sept 15, 1920, daughter of Joseph and Emma Holycross Coonse. She married in 1935 Leon Clifton. On June 22, 1946 she married Stephen E. Abernathy, who survives. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Fifth Street. Surviving, in addition to her husband are: her mother, Mrs. Emma Coonse of Waynetown; six children, Jack Clifton of Danville, Ill; Barbara Wilson of Champaign, Ill; Thomas Clifton at home; and Gretchen, Carol and Stephen Abernathy all at home; 3 stepchildren, Mrs. Janice Pritchard of Indianapolis; Samuel Abernathy in the US Navy at San Diego; and Shirley Kay Abernathy at home; two brothers, Wilbur Coonse of Albany, Wash and Lewis Coonse of Tilton, Ill; 3 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. The body is at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home where friends may call after noon today, Feb 21. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock DST Thursday afternoon at the funeral home. The Rev. L.R. West and Rev. Roger James will officiate. Burial will bein Cooper Chapel Cemetery, southeast of Covington.
